peake

1. My name is Jennifer Peake, and my business is Scented Sensations.

2. I decided to turn my hobby into a business because I needed to make some extra money on the side to pay for a few things that had come up. I realized I might be able to take it further than just making candles and selling them on eBay so I had a friend help me make a website and set it up so people could purchase from my site. I have been in business for one year.

3. I make and sell candles. I make votives (round and square), pillar candles, glass jar candles (heart and star shaped glass and also Mason jars) and tart melts in fun shapes, such as puppy paw prints, hearts, roses and flip flop sandals.

4. My business goals are to expand a little bit more than I have so far. I have a full time job and I make candles as my “second job.” But I would love for it to become a steady income. I also would like to start selling accessories for candles, such as candleholders, plates, sconces, etc. But I need to find a source of getting those products, either through a vendor or wholesale. heart and star candles

5. The products I have used from Nature’s Garden have been mainly the fragrance oils and candle wicks for my candles, but I have also purchased and used candle molds as well. I really enjoy the fragrances you have and so do my customers!

mystic

1. What’s your name & Your Company Name:   My name is Rev. Amanda Darlage.  My company name is Mystic Paths.

2. Why did you decide to go into business? What was your motivation? How long have you been in business?  I went into business for several reasons.  One, I wanted something that was mine, that I could grow and would give me pride.  Two, there are no shops where I live that offered these products where I live, and the nearest ones were an hour away but mostly sold mass produced (and often tacky) goods.  I was looking for authentic, hand-made items, not a bunch of resin-cast items with a weird predilection for putting skulls everywhere, or other things that conform to stereotypes.  Three, I wanted a way to meet other like-minded individuals, as many where I live are still largely underground because of the conservative nature of the town.  Four, I wanted to put my education to work.  I hold an associate’s degree in business and another in accounting.  I did not have the capital to open a store but was offered the online store at a decent price. I also run booths at local events and have been in business for four years.

3. What products do you make and sell?  A majority of the items I craft are the palm wax candles.  I use essential oils for the scents instead of fragrances.  I also put together different kinds of herbal kits and perform services, such as weddings & handfastings.  I sell a variety of products, including gemstones, jewelry, home decor, and much more.  I try to stay away from mass produced items; however, will order just about anything a customer wants.  My favorites are the handmade products.

4. What are your business goals?   One of my goals is to have as much of what I sell handcrafted and as little as possible manufactured by corporations.  Currently, one of my biggest goals is to find an artist who can forge unique athames at an affordable price, something simple and true. Another of my goals is to eventually open a brick-and-mortar store where people can come in and meet.  It wouldn’t just be a store, but a place of meeting, a place of learning and practice, a place where workshops can be held, or simply discussions over a cup of tea or coffee.

5. What are some products you use from Natures Garden?  The products I use are mostly the essential oils and candle molds. I will use the fragrance oils upon request i.e. food scents.

1. What’s your name & Your Company Name:  Ashley Priester & AP Home Decor

2. Why did you decide to go into business? What was your motivation? How long have you been in business? I decided to go into business after a falling out at my previous job 4 years ago. I told myself I would never work for someone like that again and decided to take my future into my own hands. I went to the library, took out books on candle making since I loved burning them and found a clean way to make them and sell them to others who love them as much as me. I have been doing this for over 3 years now.

3. What products do you make and sell? I make all natural soy candles, wax melts & I also personalize ceramic wall plaques as a décor item for your home, office, etc.

4. What are your business goals? My business goals are falling into place nicely. Someday very soon I hope to have a store of my own selling the products I make, along with many others from friends I have made along the way or inspired to take up a crafty hobby.

5. What are some products you use from Natures Garden? I love everything from Natures Garden. I buy my soy wax and scents. I love the choices available for scents. When my customers ask me if I have a scent I tell them there is a very good chance I can get it for them, which makes them happy customers!!

car-soap

The history of Scent Savvy has very humble beginnings! It started out as a hobby for Bill Baldwin to pass time while he was rehabilitating from surgery. Knowing that Bill liked to do things to benefit people, a friend mentioned soap making and suggested that he go look at a soap company in a nearby town. As his interest in his hobby grew, he began doing research on his own about soap. His own daughter has battled with a skin condition her whole life, so his immediate focus was on formulating a bar of soap that would calm and soothe her skin (thus, the birth of our wildly popular Creamy Carrot soap). In the meantime, his rehab was going well but it became clear that he would not be able to perform the job he’d been doing his whole life. It was time for a career change! His success with the Creamy Carrot soap inspired him to create and experiment even more. Starting out in his garage, Bill began to accumulate more and more products and equipment. Soon, he moved into the kitchen, then the den. And then the other rooms. He had the best smelling house on the block! When it became apparent he had nowhere else to go, he moved into the building in Richland Hills, Texas where we are today. And, Nature’s Garden products are everywhere! Family owned and operated, we have 4 very busy full time employees! We’re all involved with every aspect of handcrafting, marketing and selling excellent bars of soap! In addition to that, we’re working to develop body wash to add to our line of products! From Main Street in New Bern, North Carolina to Main Street in Grapevine, Tx, our soaps are becoming more and more popular. And we all believe that when God closes a door, He opens a window because that’s how Scent Savvy was born!

1.  What’s your name & Your Company Name:  Scent Savvy Soaps and Bathworks

2.  Why did you decide to go into business?  What was your motivation?  How long have you been in business? Owner, Bill Baldwin, started out soap making as a hobby while he recovered from surgery.  He was motivated to create a bar of soap that would improve his daughter’s skin condition which she has suffered from all of her life.  We’ve been in business since 2010.

3.  What products do you make and sell?  Right now, we’re focusing on soap.  However, we’ve been developing a body wash, scrubs, lotions and lip balm.

4.  What are your business goals?  We’re not putting any limits on our dream.  We want mostly to continue to provide quality skin care products and maintain an excellent relationship with our customers and to continue to do the little “extras” for people that set up apart from other companies.  We’re getting into stores that are on the “main streets” of our state and beyond.

5.  What are some products you use from Natures Garden; what are your favorite products from Natures Garden?  Gosh!  That’s like putting a person who loves chocolate in a chocolate factory and asking them to choose the chocolate they love best!  But seriously, we mostly use Essential oils and Fragrance Oils from Nature’s Garden and we LOVE them!  You would think that from supplier to supplier there wouldn’t be too much difference.  But Nature’s Garden is the best!

2.Why did you decide to go into business? I was already in business, making handcrafted jewelry. I own a brick & mortar store and, as I love all things handmade, I decided to give
soap making a try, not only for myself, but to add something new and special to my selection of gifts.

3.What was your motivation? I bought my first bar of handmade soap several years ago after a friend of mine explained how handmade soap could help the dry patches and excess oil my face – as well as my rough, dry skin in
general. I bought a bar and instantly noticed the difference. My face was not longer oily or dry, the rough patches on my arms and legs were soft and silky…I was hooked! Immediately I looked into
making my own soaps…and my love of soaping just blossomed from there.

5.What products do you make and sell? For bath & body: cold processed soaps, lotions, body butters, bath bombs, shampoos & conditioners, room & linen sprays, bubble bath, carpet powders, lip balms, perfume oils, body mist sprays, clay
facial masks, a “WEN” type cleansing conditioner, tub teas, container candles, and more.

6.What are your business goals?  Running a profitable organization, increasing my staff, giving my customers  the assurance that my company is easy to do business with and
improving customer experience, launching new products, becoming more efficient in business operations, growth (I plan on moving to a larger store within the next 2 years).

7.What are some products you use from Natures Garden? Fragrance oils (Oh, My!), candle wax, base oils, herbs, cosmetic clays, packaging…

Soy Candles, Soaps and Lotions

jspun

1.  What’s your name & Your Company Name:  My name is Jennifer Snyder and I own JS Homespun Creations.

2.  Why did you decide to go into business?  What was your motivation?  How long have you been in business?  I have always been a creative and crafty person.  I started making gift baskets and party favors, which slowly turned into making my own candles to put into those gift baskets I was making.  I soon figured out that the gift basket biz was for a special kind of customer and not for an every day customer, so I decided to focus my attention on just making candles.  I also make soap and other bath & body products, which started with a lot of research and reading about herbs, oils, and pre-made bases.  JS Homespun Creations was born in the Fall of 2010, and this year will be my 3rd year selling at local craft shows.  I participate in about 20 craft shows a year.

3.  What products do you make and sell?  I make soy candles, handcraft soaps, and natural bath & body products, like scrubs, lotions, and bath bombs.

4.  What are your business goals?  For this year, my business goals would be more advertising and sales.  I live in a small town, so getting my name out there has been at the top of my list.  A big dream of mine, as I’m sure with most crafters, is to one day open my own shop.

5.  What are some products you use from Natures Garden?  Oh my goodness, I probably can keep NG in business!  It’s become my one stop shop for supplies.  From your fragrance oils to your plastic jars.  I love that NG has decided to add the herbs, carrier oils and butters to their product line, it has truly made my life easier!   One of my favorite products is the natural Goat’s Milk soap, I love it and my customers do too!!

Hideaway Candle Company

delynn

1.  What’s your name & Your Company Name:  Delynn Burrell, Southern Hideaway Candle Creations

2.  Why did you decide to go into business?  What was your motivation?  How long have you been in business?  I originally started making candles as a hobby to help with my candle obsession. From there it grew to doing them for Family and Friends for presents for Christmas, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Baby Shower Gifts.  Finally a friend told me I just needed to open a store online and try selling them. So I did, this was back in 2007. I’ve grown over the last couple years, increased my designs and expanded to include Bath and Body type products as well as homemade candy.

3.  What products do you make and sell?  A little bit of everything, from Tarts, to Memorial Pillars to Specialty designs such as Praying Angel Pillars. I do realistic food and beverage types, Wax dipped Animals, Aroma beads, Incense, and of course my Favorite from Nature’s Gardens the Aroma Buds.    I have a whole area dedicated to Pregnancy and Infant Loss which is very close to my heart.

4.  What are your business goals?   I want to continue to grow, to expand into more designs and mediums of wax as currently I only work with Soy and Gel. I would love to see myself grow enough to be able to fulltime support the purchase of my own domain and website, as currently we are only on Facebook. I truly just hope to grow as an artist, to continue to touch the hearts of my customers with the designs I put out.

5. What are some products you use from Natures Garden?  We currently use many of Nature’s Garden’s scents, flavorings for lip balm, we’ve recently started the salt scrubs using products from Nature’s Garden, and we do the Aroma Buds. Our favorites as far as scents go is Cola, Apple Butter Caramel fragrance oil, and one we tested but haven’t seen added to the site yet called Apple Pecan Sage. We adore all the flavorings we’ve tried, our biggest seller is Monkey Farts and the Aroma Buds are probably are most favorite because we love Roses but hate that real ones die so quickly so it enables us to keep them year round.

Mom Owned Candle Company

Saturday, March 23rd, 2013

carrie1.  What’s your name & Your Company Name
My name is Carrie Powell and my company’s name is Carrie’s Curiosities, LLC

2.  Why did you decide to go into business?  What was your motivation?  How long have you been in business?
I’ve loved candles for as long as I can remember and I grew up with a very crafty mother, that encouraged me to try different outlets for my creativity.  I actually went to bed one night thinking, “I wonder how hard it would be to make my own candles”.  When I woke up the next morning, I began scouring the internet for any information on candlemaking I could find. (Luckily, I was able to find quite a lot!)  After I read up on the process, I talked to my husband about learning to make my own candles. (I honestly thought he would tell me I’m crazy.) However, he encouraged me to get a starter kit and try it out, so I did and I loved it!  From there, I started making candles for friends, family and neighbors and people really loved my candles, so I decided to start making them on a larger scale.
My motivation for the business was the prospect of getting to do something I truly loved and still be at home with my son.  I really enjoy the fact that I get to be a business owner and a full time mother!
I’ve been in business for about a year and I’m still learning a lot.  Everyday is a new adventure and I’m loving the ride!

3.  What products do you make and sell?
Right now, I sell soy container candles (mason jars, Victorian style jars, tureens and tins), palm wax container candles, votive candles, tarts/melts and grubby pillar candles.  (I also sell a few beaded ornaments on my website as well, but they aren’t scented!)

4.  What are your business goals?
My current goals are to continue making high quality products and to build my online presence.  I’ve also begun participating in local craft fairs and would like to continue building my presence within my community.

5.  What are some products you use from Natures Garden; what are your favorite products from Natures Garden?
Oh goodness, I use Nature’s Garden’s fragance oils all the time!  I’ve also purchased tins and clamshell containers and everything I’ve received has been excellent.  I honestly love NG’s fragrance oils.  There is such a large variety, that I just have fun looking through them all and making wishlists.  One of my favorite scents, is one that I just used in my new vanilla line of candles, Coconut Vanilla scent.  It is a terrific scent and I honestly don’t want to sell the candles I’ve made.  I want to keep them all, because I love the scent so much!
